Empowering Mining Communities

Our project focuses on raising awareness about mercury’s dangers in small-scale mining communities.

Empowering Mining Communities

In the Amansie West District, our project focuses on five key towns: Manso Nkwanta, Manso Abore, Manso Akropong, Manso Mpatuam, and Manso Moseaso. Each of these communities plays a vital role in the artisanal gold mining sector, which, while economically significant, poses serious health and environmental challenges.

Over the past year, we have engaged directly with local residents to educate them about the dangers of hazardous chemicals, particularly mercury. This toxic substance is often used in gold extraction processes, leading to severe health risks such as neurological damage and respiratory issues, as well as long-term environmental degradation.

Our awareness campaigns have included workshops, informational materials, and community discussions aimed at highlighting the importance of safe mining practices. By equipping these communities with knowledge, we empower them to make informed decisions that protect their health and environment.

In addition to educational efforts, we are collaborating with local leaders to advocate for better regulations and practices in the mining sector. Our goal is to create a sustainable framework that prioritizes both human rights and environmental protection.

Through these initiatives, we aim to foster a culture of safety and responsibility in mining communities. Together, we can ensure that the benefits of gold mining do not come at the expense of health and environmental integrity.

Protecting Communities from Hazardous Chemicals

Our project aims to educate small-scale mining communities about the dangers of mercury exposure. We together with other stake holders take necessary action to stop the ongoing detrimental activities. By raising awareness, we strive to promote safer mining practices and protect both health and the environment.
